Export Oracle Report to Excel (Reports Version 6)

Hi,

I am fairly new to Oracle and have never used Forms before. I have managed to create a form which produces a report. However, I would also like to give the user the option of creating an Excel version of the report.

I have searched the forum and the internet and have found some bits of information suggesting things like TEXT_IO, OLE, DDE, etc. but nowhere seems to provide a simple step-by-step approach.

I know that to do it manually you can use the delimiter option, but obviously the user won't know how to do it, so I wanted to code a button that would run a script which created the excel file for them.

I am using Forms version 6.0.8. and Reports version 6.0.8.

Can anyone help and suggest either where I can find a documented approach with easy-to-follow examples, or suggest code that would help?

It would really help if each line of code was explained as I would like to learn as I go along rather than just copy some code and not really know what it does in detail!
