Experiencing PDF to Postscript printing slowness while printing using pdf2ps converter in Solaris 1

user1234107Dec 14 2015 — edited Feb 18 2017

Hello All,

While printing checks  on Oracle Solaris 11.2 (sparc) via CUP's printing. PDF to Postscript convertion  printing is slow using "pdf2ps' converter rather than "pdftops" PDF to Postscript converter. Printing that used to take 1 minute is now taking 10 minutes or more for the same job.

It seems than pdf2ps converter is a higher resolution PDF to Postscript converter than pdftops.

Even adjusting the resolution down (down to -r 200)  is proving too slow for the users. Anything less than 200 DPI, then the  output quality is not acceptable.

Going back to using the legacy "pdftops" PDF to Postscript converter clears the printing slowness issue, but the printing is not formatted correctly for check printing MICR font.  Per Oracle support the PDF to Postscript converter needs to be pdf2ps.

Is there an optimum printer configuration  ( certain HP printer model, or  base RAM configuration ) to print check properly and quickly using "pdf2ps" PDF to Postscript converter? Will installing more RAM clear the issue or purchase of a newer printer?

All our HP check printers exhibit the same slowness:

HP Laserjet 9050n
HP Laserjet 1300
HP Laserjet 4100tn
HP Laserjet 4350tn
HP Laserjet 600 M601
HP Laserjet 4200tn
HP Laserjet P4515tn
HP LaserJet 4300tn

Thanks in Advance!
