Expanding disk space on Oracle Linux 6 VM running on VMWare

technocratFeb 6 2018 — edited Feb 8 2018

Greetings, everyone!

First time posting, just joined today. Our company recently setup 3 Oracle Linux VM servers for a group of developers. Yesterday, I had a request to increase the diskspace on one of them. Easy to do in VSphere. I made the needed increase then rebooted the vm. I found instructions for doing this & followed them. Everything was going according to the instructions until it came time to update the logical volume. Here is the command I ran & the results:

[root@fspxslporacleweb01 ~]# resize2fs /dev/vg_fspxslporacleweb01/lv_swap

resize2fs 1.43-WIP (20-Jun-2013)

resize2fs: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/vg_fspxslporacleweb01/lv_swap

Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

Has anyone here encountered this? I saved the Putty sessions, so if needed I can provide everything to anyone wanting to see it.

Thanks tons!!

David
