Expand pivot table width

737786Nov 29 2009 — edited Nov 30 2009
I have created a pivot table using 5 measures and 19 dimensions (a fairly wide report).

From within the "Results" tab, each time I add a dimension, the report automatically adjusts the column widths of all other dimensions. If I specifiy column widths using Format Values > Additional Fomatting Options > Wiidth = 500, the the column (dimension) just edited will widen but other columns (dimensions) will narrow to compensate for the 500 entered. I have also attempted to widen respective columns from within the "Criteria" tab with the same result as described above. Seemingly there is a finite width within which the pivot table must be built and any additional dimensions added beyond this width will result in columns being narrowed in size.

This has the effect of displaying long value strings which wrap around to 4-5 lines, rather than being able to widen the column to display the value on a single line. For example:-

Desired result.........
Supplier Name
Alfred Lewis Engineering Pty Ltd

Actual result (after widening other columns)......
Supplier Name
Alfred
Lewis
Engineering
Pty Ltd

Is there a pre-set or default width for pivot tables? Can this width be changed? If so, where can this be done?
Can pivot tables be built to accommodate absolute column width rather than relative column width?
Besides removing dimensions, is there another way of achiveing desired column width for a wide report?

Thanks
