exp vs expdp

chuckersMay 29 2007 — edited May 30 2007
We recently had a problem in Oracle unrelated to imp/exp or impdp/expdp. In the course of discussing the upgrade from 10.1.0.3 to 10.2.0.3, the support engineer suggested a route which involved using imp/exp. When I asked him to be specific, did he mean imp/exp or impdp/expdp, he said imp/exp.

His reasoning was that expdp would not fix block corruption in INDEXES (if it exists) during the impdp. Only TABLE data would have block corruption experience a repair. I couldn't find anything like that in the docs. I'm mostly asking, as imp/exp takes FOREVER, and I'm wondering if this tech was correct, since Oracle is heavily pushing for impdp/expdp over imp/exp.

Has anyone had any bad expereinces with expdp/impdp, where exp/imp fixed the problem? Is exp/imp still suppoed to be the standard?

Thanks
