Executing SQL from a page item

Hey everyone,
I am still rather new to the whole application express world. I have a question about sql report regions. I was wondering if there is any way to store a query in a page item and then reference that item in the sql region source instead of typing the whole thing. Any help I can get from anyone would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks alot.
