ETL Process

Hi friends,

A general question.

Why mainly we are going for an ETL process, why it is necessary to go for it. As ETL resembles like Extract Transform and LOad.

What generally i heared about it means, it will extracts the data from the source database transforms it and load the data in the target database (i.e)
dataware house.

Here what might be the source database whether it is an oltp db or olap db, and also what might be the target db whether it is also an oltp or olap.

Generally what is the difference between oltp and olap db, and also why we are going for an ETL.
