"/etc/hosts" permission denied

807557Dec 23 2006 — edited Dec 24 2006
i am running Solaris 10 06/06 and I'm trying to edit the /etc/hosts file. but when i VI the file, edit the IP address, and try to save it, vi comes back with "/etc/hosts" file is read only. i have changed the permissions for the file to 777 (i know its not a good idea but the system is on a home network) and vi still says the same thing. I don't know what to do. the only way i can change the ip address is to set up dhcp, but that only works for this session. could somebody please help me.
