Essbase Excel Add-In with Office 2010 works without any issues.
But Excel Add-In with Office 2013 or Office 2016 gives a flickering behavior (any navigation in Excel, causes Excel to flicker and only after switching to a different application, the flickering stops; it starts again as we begin to navigate in excel again. Basically, we can't do anything in excel).
Having said that, we could notice normal behavior in two cases,
1. Excel works fine with Excel Add-in disabled.
2. Also, we see normal behavior when the add-in is enabled manually every time (for that session of excel).
But, in our case, the add-in is enabled automatically on every launch of Excel(the load behavior of ExcelAddIn.dll COM Add-In causes that?!). This also brings the flickering issue with it. Only after removing and adding the addin manually (from excel options), the flickering goes away; then we are able to work with excel/connect to essbase, do retrieves, etc.,
We understand that the SpreadSheet add-in is not supported with Office 2013/2016. As our plans to move to SmartView is a few months away, we are looking at interim work-arounds till we successfully migrate everyone to SmartView.
One work-around, as I mentioned earlier is to remove and add the addIn manually for each session of excel. But, that will create too much dis-comfort to users who will do frequent retrievals.
Any suggestions?
