Error trying to create a new repository with the Oracle BI Administration tool

Hi ! I just installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0 along with the Admin tool on a client. Also installed Essbase client on the OBIEE server and confirmed that the essbase client connects successfully to Essbase..

However an attempt to connect to 'Essbase 9' from the connection type drop-down results in the error: "The connection has failed. Essbase Error nnnnnnn" where nnnnnn seems to be a different number when the Admin tool is restarted. (see attachment for error message)

Client PC OS is Windows 7

OBIEE server is Windows 2008 R2

Any ideas as to why this happens will be much appreciated.
