Error:"no tape loaded or drive offline"

Hello,
Hopfully someone has seen this one before....

Installed a tape drive on a Dell Solaris8 for intel box. It installed just fine but I can't mount a tape.

cfgadm -a
c0::rmt/0 tape connected configured unknown

One would think it's good togo. nope...

mt -f /dev/rmt/0n status or mt status returns
/dev/rmt/0n: no tape loaded or drive offline
If i run mt status immediately after inserting a tape it takes a few seconds to return an answer vs. immediately.

I'm assuming the drive is good because it works under NT. I've also tried different tapes.

Any Idea's
