Hi All
Some time ago I posted this question in the Oracle Linux forum: Oracle Enterprise Linux for SPARC on Solaris 10 Control Domain
The responses were useful but it was suggested I would have better luck here in the VM Server for SPARC forum and I didn't find any real recent discussion on the topic.
I'd like to run Oracle's Enterprise Linux for SPARC in a Solaris 10 controlled LDom as a development guest. But I find all the documentation and announcements a little lacking in detail and certainly I wasn't able to use Oracle Linux 6 Update 7 (SPARC) UEK R4 successfully as a guest on my T4-2 (it panics the entire primary host).
So I wonder if anyone else has had any experience running Oracle Linux for SPARC, or knows what the minimum requirements are. I'd love if you could share your experience or environment.
My Specs:
Primary Solaris 10 1/13 Kernel 150400-48
Server T4-2 Firmware 8.9.5.a
OVM for SPARC LDOMs 3.1.1.1.7
From what I read, my hardware/firmware meets the requirements. Solaris should be able to be used as a primary according to https://blogs.oracle.com/virtualization/friday-spotlight:-running-oracle-linux-as-a-logical-domain-on-sparc but nowhere can I find what version of Solaris. I've come to my own conclusion that LDOMs 3.3 is needed as a minimum which would therefore imply Solaris 11.3
I wonder if I would have better luck with the earlier UEK R2 release which I didn't try, as I assumed later would give better support. Also OL6 U9 is released now, also with UEK R4 but I suspect it with have the same issue. Its not really practical for me to risk crashing my whole server over a hunch though, even if it is a dev host
