End of Support - FHIR DSTU2

Andrew Fagan-OracleFeb 21 2025 — edited Feb 21 2025

We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding our FHIR service. As part of our commitment to providing you with the most secure and efficient healthcare data solutions, we have decided to deprecate support for the DSTU2 version of FHIR.

Since January of 2023 FHIR traffic has been steadily moving away from FHIR DSTU2 to FHIR R4. Today over 90% of FHIR traffic to our service is for the R4 version. In addition to overall usage trends, looking forward to FHIR R6 also contributed to this decision. This change will allow us to focus our efforts on bringing new capabilities to consumers.

To give appropriate time for impacted developers we are planning for an 18-month transition period.

FLASH ID: FLASH24-0180-0

Key Dates to Note:

  • Announcement Date: June 3rd, 2024
  • End of Enhancement: June 3rd, 2024
  • End of New Registration: Sept 3, 2024
  • Deprecation Date: December 1, 2025
  • Transition Period: From now until December 1, 2025, both DSTU2 and R4 versions will be supported.

What does this mean for you?

  • Affected Services: All services currently utilizing DSTU2 will need to migrate to FHIR R4.

How we can help:

We understand that this transition may require effort on your part, and we greatly appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Thank you for being a valued customer. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continuing to provide you with the highest quality service.
