Encountering "RAID type 253 not supported" while installing VM Server

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install Oracle VM Server (2.2.1) on a HP ProLiant ML150 G6 Server - (518175-005) with an on-board HP Smart Array B110i RAID Controller. I have 4x500GB SATA drives configured in a single array with 2 logical drives: 20G in RAID 1+0 and 1.8G in RAID 0.

During the installation of VM Server, after Anaconda loads, I get the following error for all four drives:

ERROR: sil: RAID type 253 not supported
ERROR: adding /dev/sda to RAID set "sil_ajabaccaaidg

If I disable the RAID controller in BIOS, and configure the hard drives as AHCI drives, I would then be able to install the VM Server successfully. But then, I would have to use software RAID (using mdadm) to stripe across my drives. I would, however, like to put the B110i RAID controller in use and configure RAID through the controller.

Is there anything wrong in what I am doing, or is there anything I am ignoring here?

Appreciate any help/pointer.

Thanks and regards,
Govardhanan.
