Edit data in query results grid does not work - I have write priv

Version is 3.0.0.2 . Trying to change text field in query result table. Double click on record field I want to edit. Get "pencil" icon...and click on pencil icon and get view value dialog. Change and ok buttons are disabled - even though I have edit account privileges. Can't change anything in dialog.

I was then able to run manual update statement and commit change....but it would be easier to just type new value right in cell and commit. Just curious why cell edit doesn't work. Am I missing some extra 'unlock' step ? Please advise
