dynamically change icon inside a Text Field 'Gender'

Apex 23.1

a page contains 3 Text Fields,

1 Patient ( PopUp LOV with additional output sets for both below columns -working fine- ) contains icon fa-search

2 Gender

3 Contact # - contains icon fa-phone

i want to set icon of Gender if patient gender is (M)ale then fa-male and if (F)emale then fa-female otherwise fa-user

and i want your help how to achieve this? please help.
