Download Oracle 8i Personal (NT/2000)

317100Aug 2 2002
I looked at the messages relating to downloading problem (99% complete but browser just hang) from current date to the beginning of 2002. What I notice is that the problem never resolved by OTN. I came across one message posted by someone I could not remember his name, stating that there may not be an EOF to the file we all trying to get.

Hmm...

I think he may be right. I tried to the download the file using Internet Explorer 5.0 and Netscape 4.78; Netscape reports that the file to be downloaded exceeds size limitation of my 40G HD which has plenty of disk space left. (36G of free space to be specific) It prompted me if I wish to continue; I said yes. It completely download the file with the file size match up with the original. I ran the zip file. BAMB! File Corrupt!

I did this test two time. Then, I tried with IE.

IE did not report any size limitation. It went on and just do its thing, only letting the end-user to hang at 99% completion at the very of the download session. Now, what does this tell you? Netscape is better at reporting error message than IE. But that is beside the point.

The point is that there may be no EOF for the file we download. What that means is that the file is larger than my 36G of free disk space. Interesting...

I just tried a different method of downloading the file. I am 35 minutes a way from completion. I'll be back and tell you if this new test fail or pass.

To be continue...

P/S: Where are the Tech Support people from Oracle in this matter?
