Documentum to WebCenter Migration

676072Nov 17 2011 — edited Dec 13 2011
Dear all

I worked with EMC/Documentum products for 16 years mostly on pharma sites.

Two global pharmaceuticals I have worked at have shown interest in WebCenter - both unofficially stating their feelings (at least pre-momentum 2011 in Berlin) that there was some product roadmap issues with EMC and Documentum. However, I think probably the message has been driven home that EMC are paying attention to their purchase of Documentum since EMC are interested in selling cloud products and realize Documentum is something which could promote the sale of their hosted services and storage products.

I did a quick search for the word "Documentum" and not come up with anything in this forum and have limited knowledge of WebCenter at this time but evidently propoganda from Oracle proposing EMC customers of "living in the past with their 4-track music system" (the 4-track obviously being the Documentum product) suggests WebCenter has certain offerings that would make it a viable product to switch users away from Documentum to WebCenter.

I don't know enough about WebCenter at this time to make any such comment and am not really interested in politics - just what works for the customer.

In the mean time, there must be people looking at POC's to determine viability to migrate from Documentum or key determinants in terms of choice of platform for new in-house applications.

Are there any white papers or other details available or feedback from yourselves that could be taken into consideration so that comparisons can be made?

Many thanks

Kevin
