Displaying hidden value along with static text in "Display as text" field

Hi,
I sifted through lots of search results and couldn't find an answer, so hopefully someone might be able to help.

I have a hidden value that contains a date that I extract from my database. I also have a "display as text" field that is showing conditionally. I would like to show the hidden value in my display as text field along with some other text.

For example, if the hidden field value is "11/10/09" I would like to show a message that says "Database last update on 11/10/09"

Any hints on how to do this would be appreciated!
