Display variable error

664337Jun 20 2009 — edited Feb 18 2010
Hi all,

I am working on mac and i have installed virtual machine and also installed the oracle linux.
I have done all the preparation for installing oracle (creating group, user, parameters configuration).
When i try to run the runInstaller it gives me this error:

Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors
Could not execute auto check for display colors using command /usr/bin/xdpyinfo. Check if the DISPLAY variable is set. Failed <<<<

Instead of this i continued with the installation but very next second i got this error:

oracle@localhost database$ Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.

I try as root also but i am getting same error.
I am new to linux so i really dont know what this means and how to solve this on Oracle Linux.
All the package required for oracle are installed.

Kindly help.
Regards,
Shane
