display favicon in jsp

Hello;

I want to display favicon in for my pages when a user browses the site. I have searched the net and found things advising to create a 16x16 icon with ico extension, placing it under root folder and adding a link tag to the header like link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon".

But it does not work despite following the orders.

Is there anything to do with my tomcat server or how can i manage to make this work?
