Disk partitions in order to install Oracle ASM and Oracle DB 11g R1
Hello everyone! I hope you are fine.
I'm studying and practicing Oracle 11g R1. My PC features are:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.00 Ghz.
RAM Memory: 2 GB.
Hard Disk: 250 GB
O.S.: Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2.
I know! is old, but it is enough to study and practice... slowly, but functional.
This is my scenario:
I've almost finished the book "2 Day DBA" of the Oracle Database Documentation Library 11g Release 1. I'm about to practice Oracle ASM, I want test Oracle DB with ASM.
I want to format my PC because you know, the first time you test Oracle the installation is all over a single partition, is very simple... now I want to perform a most professional installation in order to improve my ability. My point is that I want to create partitions in my Hard Disk in order to simulate physical Hard Disks... I want store the different Oracle Files in different partitions in order to learn about the Oracle's best practices... For example: If Oracle strongly recommends locate the 2 members of an online redo log group in different disks, then I need to create 2 partitions... and when I'll reinstall Oracle, I'll configure that way the members of the Online Redo Log group. Same way, I want to know if I need to create a partition for Oracle base directory, another one for ASM, two more for Online Redo Log and so on... please Oracle experts help me!!! Oracle is exciting!!! Please let me know how do you set the hard disk partitions... if you can, please also explain to me the reason of each partition. This is only to study and practice! and maybe, when good enough I'll look for a job using Oracle Technology.
Thanks a million in advance!
Have a nice weekend!
