Discoverer, Portals and SSO

Russ ProudmanJul 31 2006 — edited Jul 31 2006
Hey there.

I know that when you install 10g Disco Plus / Viewer, if you set up SSO, you connect to a connection screen where you can create private / public connections.

My questions are though:

1. Is the connection screen part of Disco or SSO? In that I mean that if you simply installed Plus / Viewer, but not SSO, do you still start Discoverer via that connection screen?

2. Let's say you connect to Discovrerer via that connection screen, where you put in a private / public connection and Disco starts up. If you install, setup with Portlets, etc. some Portal screens, do you still have to go to that connection screen?, or do you just start up Portals directly through it's connection screen (to see some Disco Portlets, etc.)?

What I think is:
1. The connection screen is part of Discoverer. When you connect and SSO is in place, it just passes in the connection info you put into the connection screen to Disco so you don't have to put in a username, etc. again.

2. So, if you had Portals installed, you would call up Portals directly where it must have some kind of login screen, and see your portlets. If you had any portlets that linked directly to a Plus report, you would have to log in to Disco at that point in time.

All this sound correct, or am I totally missing something here?

Thx.

Russ
