Directory browsing on Iplanet Web Server 4.x

I am running a small web server with IWS 4.x and I wish to ensure that directory structure is not accessible for directory listings. On the documents preferences page I could disable directory indexing. But I would like to preserve the possebility to browse a part of the directory structure. What would be the most elegant and transperant way to realize this.
