Difference between unique and primary key

User_5OAFPMar 3 2016 — edited Mar 3 2016

It puzzles me a bit and I'm wondering if there is some advantage or something I don't know. From time to time I see in tables that a column is defined as not null and unique index is created on that column. Is there any reason or advantage to do so instead of defining primary key on this column?

Thank you
