Difference between socket, cores and thread".

JhilJan 14 2018 — edited Jan 15 2018

Dear Linux Admins,

I am getting bit confused.

'number of cpu's ,  'number of cores  and   'number of sockets in Server.

I know number of socket means - number of processors on the mother board.

I presume one server/computer has one cpu - i know this is wrong.

Is there any difference between core and cpu in system/server ?

I know questions are really silly please do NOT mind it . please clarify
