Difference between sga_target and sga_max_size

Hi,

Could you please tell the difference between sga_max_size and sga_target.
Or could provide a link for the same.

In my database the values are as follows,

sga_max_size big integer 160M
sga_target big integer 160M

I want to increase the SGA to 500 M.
