Difference between Oracle database and OID?

ArunMar 5 2013 — edited Mar 5 2013
Hi All,

I am just getting to learn OID and wanted to know few things clear. OID from the definition 'An online directory is a specialized database that stores and retrieves collections of information about objects.'. Thats what database does right? Then why introduced OID in the first place?

Thanks,
Arun
