Difference between a Smart View retrieve using Planning and Essbase connection

Please help me understand the difference in process between a Smart View retrieve using an “Oracle Essbase Connection” and an “Oracle Hyperion Planning Fusion Edition”. The reason for the query is that we had a data pull error with an “The form is invalid” error using Planning connection. However, using Essbase connection, the pull was successful. We are at 11.1.2.4 and the error started to appear after applying patch 13. The issue was resolved when the QUERYRESULTLIMIT parameter was set in the Essbase configuration file.

Without the parameter, why did it work using the Essbase connection and not the Planning connection?
