DHTML tree usage tips

I'm trying out DHTML trees and I like the expand/collapse functionality, but is there any way to customize it? Currently, if you click on one of the page links in the tree, it entirely collapses the tree. I'd like for the tree to stay expanded and showing the current page the application is on. Can anyone give me some pointers here?
