df -k and du -sh show difference in value. Which one is considered by the Kernel?

In case df -k shows 16GB of a 20GB file system being occupied.

However du -sh shows 9.8 GB  of it being occupied.

Which output is AUTHENTIC and which one is considered by the Operating System/Kernel?

Can we rely on 'du -sh" and not perform any trimming on the filesystem?
