Designer 10g R2: incompatible versions of client and server software

421293Feb 13 2008 — edited Feb 19 2008
Hello,

I have just installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) including Designer 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) onto a new laptop from

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ids/index.html

The installation was fine, but I was unable to connect and received the following error message:

"Running incompatible versions of client and server software. Server version 4.0.12.99.4 is newer than client software. Upgrade the client software using the Installer."

I know from checking on Metalink (Note 176515.1) that Designer release number 10g Release 10.1.2.3 corresponds to Repository version 4.0.12.99.4 (the previous version of Designer installed here was 10.1.2.3 last year, without the Development Suite, so this tallies). The Metalink note says 10g Release 10.1.2.3 is now superseded and it doesn't look like I can (and should) download this.

I've also just installed Oracle10gR2 Designer Release 10.1.2.4 (most recent patch). The Repository version for this is 4.0.12.100.2. When I installed the patch, I had the option of updating the client and the repository (which I selected) but I now get the following error:

"CDR-21704: Running incompatible versions of client and server software."

I thought the 10.1.2.4 patch would have addressed this, but obviously not. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Antony
