Deleting Account members from the HFM hierarhcy

Hi,

Our HFM application has been running for 2 years now and today, we have this change that needs to remove several Account dimension members. My question is, what will happen to the data of the accounts to be removed? And is a normal metadata update fine for this to be done? or is there a need to restructure the application?
