Deleted lots of indexes but free space not showing in tablespace.

Hi,

I have deleted 100's of unused indexes, but the tablespace free space did not increase. Stayed at 98% full. Supposed to have deleted 500GB worth of indexes.
Command used:
drop index BAAN.TABLENAME;
What could be the reason? I understand the O/s space is not reclaimed but the free space in the tablespace should increase.
