Delay SMTP Connection with RBL Setup

iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 2 (built Jul 14 2004)
libimta.so 5.2 Patch 2 (built 19:30:12, Jul 14 2004)
SunOS Relay1 5.9 Generic_117171-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
I am getting avg of 10-12 smtp connections per sec to my incoming iMS mail server. I configured RBL (DNS_VERIFY_DOMAIN) settings and my DNS works fine. Before I configure RBL, mail server accepted all incoming smtp trafic with no delay, but now with DNS_VERIFY_DOMAIN settings, establishing new connections seem to be not possible. (sometimes I could connect to port 25 after several tries or imta refreshes.)
Pls advise how could I configure my incoming mail server with RBL checks. I can resolve any DNS domain from my server with no delay.
