default precision for type timestamp oracle sql

Hi,

i am reading the book of advanced sql of oracle 11g. I found that the default precision of the type timestamp is 6. but when i tried an example i have the following result: 21-JUN-99 12.00.00.000000000 AM ( we have 9 zero) i didn't understand that. Please could you help me
