Dedicated VS. Shared server

Hi Friends,

I have an Oracle 10g DB on Windows 2003 server.

We have a 3rd party apps (developed in Visual Basic) using ODBC connecting to it. with 800 users.
How do i set my server to use shared server threading (against dedicated)? So that it consumes less resources/memory?
Do I set it in init.ora or spfile parameter?

How do i set it as mixed? I want my batch long running jobs to use dedicated servers, and the end-users (transactional process) to use shared server.
