dbms_xplan.display error

when I tried to see the explain plan I got the following error .Can anyone help me to resolve this.

select plan_table_output from table(dbms_xplan.display('plan_table',null,'serial'))
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00904: invalid column name
