DBMS_CRYPTO available on 11g Standard Edition?

user12204556Feb 24 2011 — edited Jul 6 2011
We are currently using Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) Standard Edition and are storing some passwords in plain-text. This is of course a very bad practice so we intend to convert them to a (salted) hash with the help of DBMS_CRYPTO.

While search google I found this blog with states "[...]DBMS_CRYPTO in 11g, which requires you to buy Enterprise Edition".

This got me worried. Would we be in trouble when we wanted to upgrade later to Oracle 11g Standard Edition? Would we no longer be allowed to use DBMS_CRYPTO?

I search google, this forum and metalink for more confirmation of this but found none. The differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition I found mostly use high level' commercial terms describing features and nothing specific about DBMS_CRYPTO

So the question: will I be allowed to use DBMS_CRYPTO in Oracle 11g Standard Edition?
