DBA work requirements without compensation....
ji liMay 6 2008 — edited May 16 2008I have a general question that I would really like to hear back from others:
I am very curious how many other DBAs are out there working for companies that require the DBAs to work weekends, after hours, take home their laptops to be on 7x24 hour call, and do NOT get paid for it?
I wish we could do a poll, and also receive comments to this question.
For me, my past has been to occasionally work weekends, nights, be on call, etc., but I was usually either compensated for it financially, or at least given equal time off for working beyond the normal 40 hour work week.
Today, it seems more and more companies are exploiting their staff by making them Salaried Exempt and then requiring them to work more than 40 hours a week without compensation.
It this common practice now with other companies too? I would love to get other people's feedback on this.
