db_files exceeded

Hi,

I've just reorganized our database and moved data to new tablespaces. The number of data files decreased from more than 500 to less than 200. The problem is that I cannot decrease the value of the parameter db_files. When I set the value to 300 I got the following error during database startup:

ORA-00059: maximum number of DB_FILES exceeded

What can be the cause? I dropped old files and tablespaces but it seems that the files are still taken into account when the parameter db_files is evaluated.
