Date picker inline with text field

I want to show a date picker using inline mode (i.e. calendar always displayed), but I also want to see the selected date displayed in a text field that preferably is read only. Unfortunately, date picker doesn't come with this display mode out of the box. I'm trying to achieve this using a text field, but I'm not sure how to make the text field always show the currently selected date. Any ideas?
