Date function EXTRACT ?

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I find the following do the same.

1) TO_CHAR(Sysdate, 'YYYY')

2) EXTRACT (YEAR from SYSDATE)

Which one is efficient on performance?

Are there any situation one is better than other?
