Date entry with single digit Month and Day

I need to allow my users to enter a these dates:
11/01/2008 (MM/DD/YYYY)
07/3/2008 (MM/D/YYYY)
6/8/2008 (M/D/YYYY)
The item type I have is a Date Picker. I tried the "Data Picker (user application format mask)" and had it set to FMMM/DD/YYYY. This did not work.
Any Ideas would be great!
