Database statistics with histograms

I would like to gather statistics on a table and create a histogram on one particular column, is this possible to do this in one operation? I have the impression that gathering statistics with the 'skewonly' option to create a histogram does not gather the stats on the rest of the table at the same time, or am i misinformed?
