One of our developers asked the following question. Do database link connections which are connecting to an NUP database take up user licenses. My feeling is that they create a session so therefore they would take up a license. However I have searched high and low on the Internet and get no reference to this being the case. To be more specific if there is a database with processor base licensing PDB connecting to a database with NUP licensing UDB will the UDB sessions be subtracting from the total number of users in the NUP license? Also if it is the case that these user connections across the DB link are taking up NUP licenses then is this situation improved by using shared DB link which limits the number of open connections to a constant number i.e. 10 which would mean the NUP licenseĀ would be reduced only by 10 users.
It makes sense that Oracle would treat db link sessions as NUP licensed sessions but I cannot find one word which confirms it.
Has anybody got any reference to Oracle licensing material which confirms or refutes the assertion in the question. Would be most grateful.
Thanks
