database ID in source and target

Hi,

i recently cloned a database using HOT backup, WITHOUT RMAN.

The documentation for this procedure states that If RMAN is going to be used to back-up the new database, the database ID must be changed.

What exactly is the reason for this??

Can i not keep the same database ID so that i dont have to set it when restoring/recovering from production database?
