Database diagram does not refresh (Tools -> Preferences -> Diagrams ->Db)

Hi,
I am using Jdev11g (11.1.1.1.0) I have a database diagram that gets object from the the live database (as opposed to offline db objects in the jdev project)
. I tried fiddling with database settings under Tools -> Preferences -> Diagrams -> Database as mentioned by Susan Duncan under http://susanduncan.blogspot.com/2008/08/dd-tips-and-techniques-2-displaying.html, but it is strange settings do not get applied.

For example,
i changed FK notation (Edit Preference for ->Foreign Key Notation -> ERD) from UML to ERD. My db diagram does not change. If I create a new one, I can see the ERD notation, but not in the existing one.

Since i am not using offline db, i don't have refresh option on my diagram. Can anyone tell me how to use the changed settings in an existing diagram that goes to the live db directly. I am hoping I will not have to recreate my db diagrams.
