Data Type (Float)

Hi
we are using Oracle9i
We have table in which field has data type float of size 126
On UI if i enter 12345678848 ,in data base it becomes exponential value as 1.2346E+10 and when i see from DBA studio in table it displays this value 12345678800.
I want know how the conversion is taking place
please explain.
