Data Guard Physical Standby Online Redo Log Files

CycleGeekOct 25 2014 — edited Oct 26 2014

I am using Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Linux and I have configured Data Guard.  Everything seems to be working, as changes are being applied to the standby, but the online redo log files are not located on the file system on the standby.

If I look on the primary I have 3 redo logs and 4 standby log files on the file system.  On the standby I only have the 4 standby logs.  If I try to create the files with and ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE GROUP I get an error indicating that the log group already exists.

If I check v$logfile on the standby I see all 7 log files listed (3 online and 4 standby), but these files are NOT on the files system?

If I do a switchover will Oracle create these files?  How can I these logs onto my file system?

Thanks,

Mark
